Consults at Bluff Road Psychology on Monday and Tuesday (18+ years).
Paul is a registered psychologist of 25 years who works with clients who are struggling with emotions such as anxiety, depression, panic, stress and grief. Paul understands that everyone experiences challenges with their mental health from time to time and that with the right support they can overcome and let go of the things that are holding them back from achieving their goals and living a happier life.
For some people the struggles involve a lack of motivation and a feeling like they can’t seem to get going. Or it could be that the person is experiencing panic and stress and can’t seem to figure out what is causing or driving it. For others it could be issues with their sense of self-worth and finding themselves repeating patterns of behaviour that are self-defeating. Whether its issues within relationships, at work or personally, it can be scary to feel stuck without a clear way forward, especially when you’ve tried all kinds of approaches and they haven’t seemed to have worked.
Paul’s approach starts with empathy and rapport. Paul sees the whole person and gains an understanding of their current and past experiences to help the person make sense of what is happening for them today. Using a range of approaches tailored to the person’s circumstances – which could include using a mix of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, Paul helps clients understand their goals for therapy and works in partnership with them to help them reach those goals. Paul’s approach is outcome focused and he uses a range of assessments to gauge the effectiveness of therapy, inform the approach and determine progress.
