Overcoming Anxiety in Everyday Life

Anxiety is very common — the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reports that 17% of Australians, around 3.4 million people, experience clinical levels of anxiety each year. This online group program helps adults understand anxiety and build practical skills to manage it.

Alex, 26

Chronic social and performance anxiety left Alex feeling isolated, convinced others judged him, and dealing with a racing heart, sweating and frequent bathroom trips during work presentations.

Through CBT and gradual exposure, he learned to manage the physical symptoms, challenge the unhelpful thoughts, and build confidence — and now feels more connected and better able to form relationships.

For parents

Overcoming School Avoidance

In Victoria, more than 200,000 students meet the definition of school avoidance or school refusal. This structured, evidence-based online program helps parents understand school avoidance and support their child’s return to regular attendance.

Jason, 11

Jason feared being asked a question in class, imagined going red in front of everyone, and believed his classmates would laugh at him.

With support, he returned to full-time school within eight weeks.

The program may help if your child or teenager

N

Often says they feel unwell before school — stomach aches, dizziness

N
Has an anxious or sensitive temperament
N
Is not experiencing ongoing bullying or harassment
N
Frequently visits the school nurse with anxiety-related symptoms
N
Worries excessively about academic performance, for example SACs
Parents often blame themselves when a child avoids school — the evidence doesn’t support that. Rising anxiety in young people is largely driven by broader social pressures, not parenting. The program runs as a group of 4–10 parents, so you can learn from others facing the same thing and build a support network that outlasts the program itself. It can also support neurodivergent children and teenagers, working alongside the school on adjustments such as quiet spaces or low-intensity lighting.
